Fall Skin Care Tips for Radiant Skin

Seasonal skincare adjustments to keep your glow as the weather cools.

When the weather cools, your skin often feels it before you do. Lower humidity, dropping temperatures, and the shift to indoor heating all pull moisture from the skin’s surface, leaving it feeling tight, dull, or flaky by the time November rolls around.

The good news: a few intentional adjustments to your routine can keep your skin balanced and glowing through the season. Here’s where to start.

Why fall is a transition point for skin

Summer skin tends to be oilier — heat increases sebum production and humidity keeps the surface hydrated. In fall, both of those shift: the air dries out, indoor heating removes even more moisture, and skin that was managing fine in July can start showing signs of dehydration by October.

Signs your skin is feeling the seasonal shift:

  • Tightness after cleansing
  • Flaky patches, especially around the nose and forehead
  • Dullness or a loss of the glow you had in summer
  • Increased sensitivity or redness
  • Makeup not sitting as smoothly as it used to

5 fall skincare upgrades

1. Swap to a gentler cleanser

If your summer cleanser was a gel or foaming formula, it may be stripping too much now that your skin is drier. Switch to a cream or milky cleanser that cleans without disrupting the moisture barrier. Your skin should feel comfortable — not squeaky or tight — immediately after washing.

2. Add a hydrating serum

Layer a hydrating serum under your moisturizer to give your skin an extra reservoir of water to draw from. Hyaluronic acid is the most effective ingredient for this — it attracts and holds moisture in the skin. Apply it to slightly damp skin before your moisturizer to seal it in.

3. Upgrade your moisturizer

Your summer moisturizer was probably lighter — a gel or fluid formula works well when humidity is high. In fall, switch to something richer: a cream with ceramides (which restore the barrier) and squalane or glycerin (which lock in moisture without feeling greasy). If you have dry skin, consider a balm or oil as the final step in your evening routine.

4. Keep exfoliation smart — not aggressive

Fall is a good time for gentle, consistent exfoliation to remove the dead skin buildup that causes dullness. A mild chemical exfoliant — like lactic acid or mandelic acid — once or twice a week is usually enough. Avoid harsh physical scrubs, and if your skin is sensitive or reactive, scale back rather than push through.

5. Don’t skip SPF

UV exposure doesn’t stop in October. UVA rays (the ones that cause long-term skin aging and pigmentation) are present year-round, even on overcast days. A broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher should still be part of your morning routine regardless of season.

The seasonal facial reset

Even with a great home routine, there’s buildup and damage from summer that benefits from professional attention — sun-related pigmentation, surface texture from increased oil production, and general congestion that builds up over months.

A seasonal facial at the start of fall is one of the best investments you can make in your skin. At Alizay, we customize every treatment to what your skin actually needs — not a one-size-fits-all protocol. We’ll assess your skin, address any lingering summer damage, and help you build the right routine for the months ahead.

If you’re not sure what your skin needs this season, start with a consultation and we’ll recommend the best next step.
